Concerning the Imaam, the Shaykh – Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (rahima-hullaah), it has been narrated by Khaalid ibn Saalih ash-Shibal:
I brought a container of ripe dates for the Shaykh, and the dates were very fresh – so the Shaykh ate a few and then asked: “Where did you get these dates from?”
So I informed him that these ripe dates are from the palm tree we have by the masjid, and which is watered from the water supply of the masjid, and everyone from the masjid and the passers by eat from it.
Just then the Shaykh’s face/voice changed and he said to me: “You mean [the palm tree is] not from your house?” And I said: “No.”
So he took out twenty riyals from his pocket placed it in my hand, and I tried to give it back to him, but he refused.
