Questioner: Which of the two is best; the last ten of Ramadhaan or the [first] ten of Dhul-Hijjah?
Shaykh: The last ten of Ramadhaan are the best in terms of the night. That is because Laylatul-Qadr is within these [nights]. And the first ten of Dhul-Hijjah are the best in terms of the day. That is because the Day of ‘Arafah (9th Dhul-Hijjah) and the Day of an-Nahr (10th Dhul-Hijjah) are within these [days]; and they are the best days of this world.
And this [opinion] is what is authentic according to the people of knowledge.
So the ten of Dhul-Hijjah are the best in terms of the day, and the [last] ten of Ramadhaan are the best in terms of the night, and that is because Laylatul-Qadr is within these [nights], and it is the best of nights.
And Allaah is the One from whom assistance is sought.
