Everything will come to pass
Asceticism is looking at the world with an eye that [some day] everything will come to pass, and thereby it appears insignificant in your eyes.
The masjid is a marketplace of the hereafter
Indeed the masjid is a marketplace of the hereafter, so if you want to trade, then go out to the marketplace of this world.
Reading the Qur.aan with understanding
O son of Aadam, by Allaah, if you were to read the Qur.aan [with understanding] and then believed in [what] it [contains], your sadness [at what comes to pass] in this world will be lengthened, and your fear [of Allaah] in this world will intensify, and your weeping in this world will increase.
More beloved to me than this world and all that is in it
For me to know that Allaah has accepted from me [a good deed equivalent to] the weight of a grain, is more beloved to me than this world and all that is in it.
The love of this world
There is none who loves [the pursuit of] this world, except that he has not loved death; [yet] whoever exerts himself [in righteousness] towards it (death), [will find that he] loves to meet his Lord.
Created for hadeeth
In this world, Abu Daawood was created for [the knowledge of] hadeeth, and [as] for the Hereafter, [he was created] for Paradise.
Attaining the sweetness of worship
Having worshiped Allaah for 50 years, I had not found (experienced) the sweetness of worship until I left three things…
A seed grain’s worth in charity
I do not know of a seed grain comparing in weight to the mountains of this world, except a seed grain[s] worth [given] in charity.
The good of hadeeth
Indeed, [knowledge of] hadeeth is the best of [all] the knowledge of this world.
