It is befitting for the student of knowledge to protect and preserve his time, because [sometime] in the future he will [reflect over this and] regret the time he has wasted.

A cause of benefit to others
al-Khaleel* [was of a disposition that] if he [was a cause of] benefit [to] someone with something, [then] he would not see it that he had benefitted him.
The blessing of eemaan and intellect
After [being blessed with] eemaan, the worshipper [of Allaah] has not been blessed with anything better than intellect.
The most blessed of days
The wise person knows that the most blessed of days is a day on which he increases in virtue and knowledge.
Allaah fills their heart with eemaan
[There are] three [categories of people] in whom [should these habits] exist, then Allaah fills their heart with eemaan

My father, as I knew him
Before [the advent of] electricity, he would go out every moonlit night to read. And in winter, he would go out and sit between two steel barrels for protection against the cold!
He would read 800 pages a day
He (Shibbeer ‘Ataa رحمه الله) was extremely fond of knowledge, and would read extensively, such that when he was in his youth, he would read 800 pages a day, and read 2,000 volumes in the moonlight.’
Because oil was scarce at the time
Most of what Shaykh Ja’far al-‘Atamee رحمه الله read [in the seeking] of knowledge was by way of the moonlight, because oil was scarce at the time.
Returning to the scholars for guidance
A graduate from 1401AH (1981) visited me this evening, and we reminisced about that time.
