…and like this it is incumbent upon the student to recognise the excellence of the jurist (scholar), and acknowledge the knowledge he (the scholar) possesses is that which he (the student) has acquired, and from him (the scholar) he (the student) has taken.

Noble Shaykh – may Allaah protect and preserve you – I have a desire to seek Islaamic knowledge; I hope you can explain [to us] the correct manner of seeking Islaamic knowledge, and [may] Allaah grant you good?
Knowledge which is not spoken with
Knowledge which is not spoken with, is like treasure which is not spent.

Strength of memory
My heart has never stored (memorised) anything and then left me.

There he would remain until just before [the time of] Zhuhr, whereby he would descend, extend greetings and depart.
Seeking knowledge to act according to it
If a man seeks knowledge to act according to it, his knowledge gratifies him, and if he seeks knowledge for other than acting according to it, then his knowledge [merely] increases him in pride and haughtiness.
Beautify knowledge
Beautify knowledge [by acting in accordance to it], and do not beautify yourself with it.
