[Regarding] the heart, when it’s sins decrease, it’s tears will hasten.
Two dark lines
There were two dark lines on the face of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab, due to weeping.
Transgressing against Allaah
A lack of fear [of Allaah] is due to a lack of remorse in the heart [at transgressing against Allaah], just as a house which has not been lived in will deteriorate.
Repent and turn back to Allaah
So whoever commits [a deed] which Allaah and His Messenger have forbidden, has harmed his religion; and he must remedy this harm by repentance and turning back [to Allaah].
The mere sight of him would awaken sadness in my heart
Whenever I looked at al-Fudhayl [ibn ’Iyaadh], [the mere sight of him] would awaken sadness [in my heart], [causing me to] despise myself, and then weep.
Sincerely repenting to Allaah
She was pregnant for [about] a month and a half, and then aborted the pregnancy – unaware of the ruling regarding that; after she learnt about the prohibition [of aborting a pregnancy], she was deeply remorseful. So is there anything required of her?
Concern and attention for one’s sins
The concern and attention the servant [of Allaah] has for his sins, motivates [him] to abandon them. And his remorse over them is the key to repentance. And, the servant [of Allaah] maintains [this] concern and attention for the sins which he is afflicted by until [his concern and attention] becomes more beneficial for him than some of his good deeds.
