I met our Shaykhs – Zirr and Abu Waa.il – and from them was he whom ‘Uthmaan [ibn ‘Affaan] was dearer to him than ‘Alee [ibn Abee Taalib], and from them was he whom ‘Alee was dearer to him than ‘Uthmaan – yet [despite this] they were very friendly and loving toward one another.

He is not truthful
He is not truthful, the one who claims [his] love of Allaah ‘Azza wa Jall, but does not preserve [and uphold] the limits set by Allaah.
Attaining the objective in the love of Allaah
If that which Allaah gives you and that which He denies you [appear] equal to you, then you have attained the objective in the love of Allaah.
Love of Allaah and His Messenger
Love of Allaah ‘Azza wa Jall entails love of the Qur.aan, and love of the Messenger ﷺ entails acting in accordance with his Sunnah.
Love Allaah, and Allaah will love you
O son of Aadam, love Allaah and Allaah will love you; and know that you will never love Allaah until you love obedience to Him.
Love of the Qur.aan
Whoever wishes to know whether he loves Allaah and His Messenger, then he should [ponder and] reflect; if he loves the Qur.aan, then [this indicates] he loves Allaah and His Messenger.
Attaining the love of Allaah
Indeed the heart which loves Allaah ‘Azza wa Jall, loves to become tired and exhausted for [the Sake of] Allaah; one will certainly never attain the love of Allaah whilst at rest and ease.
A dead heart
Never have those who enjoy, enjoyed; And never have their hearts sought to fly with anything like the beautiful recitation of the Qur.aan. And any heart which does not love the beautiful recitation of the Qur.aan is a dead heart.
A welcoming and humble heart
He extended greetings to one child who recognised him, and who then gave the Shaykh a miswaak (tooth stick). The Shaykh accepted it, smiling with complete humility and a welcoming heart.
