I have not seen a man who was more generous than Ismaa’eel ibn ‘Ayyaash. When we would visit him at the farm, he would suffice only with [slaughtering] a sheep for us and [some] dried fried dates.

Rectifying the misunderstandings of the people
The people of Egypt would disparage ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan, until al-Layth ibn Sa’d emerged from [amongst] them and spoke to them about his virtues, and so they refrained.
Not to accept gifts from the students
If I accepted it from you, then I will not relate any [more] hadeeth to you; and if I do not accept it from you, then I will [continue to] relate hadeeth to you.
Does not know if such-and-such an act is reprehensible
When I see a reprehensible act, and I do not completely know the Islaamic ruling regarding it, then I do not say anything to the one doing it; so am I correct in doing this or not?
The most knowledgeable of them
The most knowledgeable of them [with regard to matters] about the Qur.aan was Mujaahid. And the most knowledgeable of them [with regard to matters] about hajj was ‘Ataa.
The scholar and the one who learns will be partners in reward
I see that your scholars are passing away, and [yet] the ignorant ones amongst you are not learning! Learn, for indeed the scholar and the one who learns will be partners in reward.
The knowledge of ‘Aa.ishah
If [all] the knowledge of ‘Aa.ishah رضي الله عنها was gathered, and [all] the knowledge of all the women was gathered, [then] the knowledge of ‘Aa.ishah would be better.
Asking her about the laws of inheritance
On the authority of Abu Dhuhaa, who reported on the authority of Masrooq رحمه الله who said we said to him: ‘Did ‘Aa.ishah رضي الله عنها have knowledge of the laws of inheritance?’ He said
She had inherited knowledge from him
If ever we – the companions of Muhammad ﷺ – needed clarification regarding a hadeeth, we would ask ‘Aa.ishah رضي الله عنها – and found that she had [inherited] knowledge from him.
Relaying knowledge to the people
It was said to Anas ibn Maalik رحمه الله: ‘Will you not relay to us [more of this knowledge]?’ And he responded
