Who taught you good manners?
[I learnt them] myself. If I see anyone [who is] good, [then] I draw near to him, and if I see anyone [who is] ill-mannered, [then] I keep away from him.
He was good to the students
It was said that Ibn Abee Zayd [al-Qayrawaanee] wrote his famous book when he was [just] 17 years [of age].
Doing more good than harm
We pursued this affair [of seeking knowledge] and [when] we looked [around us], we did not find anyone doing an action without knowledge, except that [as a result] he would do more good than harm.
Good, upright and moral character
[From] good [upright and moral] character is to select [deeds of] virtue and abandon [deeds of] vice.
Always intend good
‘O my son, [always] intend good, for indeed you shall remain upon good so long as you intend good’

Conceal your good deeds, just as you conceal your bad deeds.
A man broke down and began sobbing
al-Hasan was preaching [to the people] when a man [broke down and] began sobbing; so al-Hasan said to him: ‘By Allaah you will [even] be questioned as to what you intended by this [tearful sobbing].’

I went out with my father and we came to Madeenah. Maalik ibn Anas then sent us a plate of fresh dates. So he (my father) then placed 1,000 deenaars and returned it (the plate) to him.
