Whoever fears Allaah, [then] no-one will harm him; and whoever fears other than Allaah, [then] no-one will benefit him.

Concern for his neighbour
Indeed, I would not wear a new garment out of fear [it would cause] my neighbour [to] be jealous [towards me], when he wasn’t before.
‘The walls have ears’
If we changed the [famous] saying ‘the walls have ears’ to ‘the angels write [everything]’, we would certainly produce a generation which only fears Allaah, and is conscious of Allaah in their speech and actions.
Out of his fear of showing off
ar-Rabee’ ibn Khuthaym only ever prayed a voluntary prayer in his local masjid once.
He would pinch his nose
Ayyoob as-Sikhtiyaanee was tender hearted, and when he would become tearful in front of his companions, he would pinch his nose to give [them] the impression he had a cold, and if he feared he would be overcome by tears, he would get up [and leave the gathering].
Conscious and fearful of Allaah
The best of the people in reciting the Qur.aan is he who, when he recites, you see (feel) he is conscious and fearful of Allaah (‘Azza wa Jall).
Knowledge which does not benefit
‘Abdul-A’laa said to me: Certainly he who has been given knowledge which does not cause him to weep, then it is feared he has not been given knowledge which benefits him.
Men are of three types
So he who knows himself to be upon evil, then it is befitting for his fear and apprehension to predominate his hope and anticipation.
So what did you do with that which you knew?
Certainly, that which I fear the most is when I stand [before my Lord] to account [for my deeds], and it is [then] said to me: You had knowledge, so what did you do with that which you knew?
Expiation of sins is by good actions
If a person fears Allaah (has taqwa), Allaah will make it easy for him to do good actions with which he can make expiation [for the sins].
