[All of] his time would be filled with worship and [the reading of] set portions [of the Qur.aan].

If [one’s] deeds done in secret are equal to [one’s] deeds done in public, then that is fair.
When Allaah wishes good for his worshipper

Doing more good than harm
We pursued this affair [of seeking knowledge] and [when] we looked [around us], we did not find anyone doing an action without knowledge, except that [as a result] he would do more good than harm.
Good, upright and moral character
[From] good [upright and moral] character is to select [deeds of] virtue and abandon [deeds of] vice.
Always intend good
‘O my son, [always] intend good, for indeed you shall remain upon good so long as you intend good’
Conceal your good deeds
Conceal your good deeds, just as you conceal your bad deeds.
Not be seen to be praying voluntary prayers
I have not seen a man [whom Allaah has] raised [in rank] like Maalik ibn Anas; he would not be seen to be praying voluntary prayers, nor voluntary fasting – yet he must have had a secret [hoard of righteous deeds].
The status of ‘Abdullaah Ibn al-Mubaarak
Allaah did not raise the status of [‘Abdullaah] Ibn al-Mubaarak except for the secret hoard [of his righteous deeds] he had.
Therein is iniquity
It used to be said: ‘For him whose secret hoard [of deeds] is superior to his open hoard [of deeds] – therein is much excellence; and for him whose secret hoard [of deeds] are worse than his open hoard [of deeds] – therein is iniquity.
