Question: I am a young man at the prime of my age, and I work in the medical field where I need to wear a uniform. Most of the hair [on my head] has turned grey, so is it permissible for me to dye it in black? And is the hadeeth:
«avoid [using the colour] black»
…specific to the beard only?
Response: From amongst the scholars are those who prohibit [the use of] black, saying the Sunnah is to change and conceal using henna. And it is not befitting to change grey hair with black, as the the words of the Prophet ﷺ to Abu Bakr were:
«avoid [using the colour] black»
…as such, these [words] are not specific to him, rather, they are for him and other than him.
