Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:
[And] many of them are very negligent [of their responsibility] towards their children.
So you find he does not ask [his children] where did they go, and nor when they came [back], and nor who their friends are, and nor who their companions are.
And nor does he [care to] look into anything related to their affairs at all.
Even if he who has children upon whom prayer is not obligatory, you will find he does not take care of them [by teaching them], rather he abandons them [in this regard].
And [yet] if he had money, you would find him very protective over it; [seeking opportunities to] invest it, and make a profit.
Sadly however, some people have neglected their children even though they are responsible for them despite their [spiritual] wellbeing actually being [a cause of] good for him.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
«The man is a shepherd (guardian) over his family, and is responsible for his flock (family).» Saheeh al-Bukhaaree and Saheeh MuslimSo each of us must look out for his children, and be very protective over their uprightness [upon the religion], more so than our concern over the gains and profits of [our] wealth.
