Protecting his photographic memory
Shaykh Ihsaan Ilaahee Zaheer informed me about our Shaykh, Muhammad al-Gondalwi that he would not read the newspapers or magazines – so as not to [inadvertantly] memorise them! That is because if he were to read anything, he was [instantly] able to memorise it.
Transgressing against Allaah
A lack of fear [of Allaah] is due to a lack of remorse in the heart [at transgressing against Allaah], just as a house which has not been lived in will deteriorate.
Whoever fears Allaah
Whoever fears Allaah, then no-one will be able to harm him, and whoever fears other than Allaah, then no-one will be able to benefit him.
Building your trust and reliance upon Allaah
I learned that my sustenance will not be taken by [anyone] other than me, so I am at ease with that…
Allaah loves the doers of good
Does your chest not tighten when someone to whom you have done good does not know you?
Having good suspicion of Allaah
I am of the opinion that at-tawakkul is having good suspicion of Allaah.
Intending solely for the Sake of Allaah
Perhaps a small deed will be magnified [in its reward] by its intention, and perhaps a large deed will be diminished [in its reward] by its intention.
When someone does you a favour or a good turn
Whoever does you [a favour or] a good turn, particularly in terms of your religion, and [offering you sincere] advice, and encouraging you upon good and discouraging you against that which is bad, then [all of] this necessitates that you should love [and respect] them.
Don’t concern yourself with them
Indeed, you are unable to please all of the people, so rectify that which is between you and Allaah and don’t concern yourself with [what] the people [may think or say].
