My mother died whilst I was young, and so I hired someone trustworthy to perform hajj on her behalf. My father had also died, and I heard from some of my relatives that he himself had performed the hajj.

Hajj badal on behalf of the deceased who left no estate
Whoever undertakes a vow to perform hajj, and subsequently dies [without having done so], and leaves no estate [from which funds can be set aside for the hajj], would the performance of hajj on his behalf be considered a recommendation or an obligation?
Asking a non-relative to perform hajj badal on behalf of a relative
If a man died without having instructed anyone to perform hajj on his behalf [after his death], then is he relinquished of this obligation if his son performs hajj on his behalf?

When observing the case of ‘Aa.ishah (radhi-yAllaahu ‘anhaa), it’s difficult [to comprehend] that she delayed making-up the [missed] fasts [of the previous Ramadhaan] until Sha’baan. So the question arises, did she not fast the voluntary fasts which were encouraged?
The best of fasts
How are we to understand the Prophet ﷺ encouraging ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Amr al-’Aas (radhi-yAllaahu ‘anhu) with the fast of [Prophet] Daawood (‘alayhis-salaam), whilst he himself did not fast it despite it being the best of fasts?
