Question: Are the ahaadeeth relating to the excellence of the night of 15th Sha’baan authentic?
Response: No, they are not authentic. [There is] nothing authentic [reported] about [the excellence of] the night of 15th Sha’baan, and nor the day of 15th Sha’baan. So the night prayer specifically on 15th Sha’baan should not be prayed. As for he who regularly prays [the night prayer], then he should pray [the night prayer] on the night of 15th Sha’baan – just as he does on other nights. As for him specifically praying [the night prayer] on this night, then this is an innovation. [Likewise, if] he fasts the day of 15th Sha’baan, then this is [also] an innovation, unless he [intends to] fast the full moon days for example, then he he should fast them during Sha’baan as well as the other months.
