Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Aal Al-Sheikh, Grand Mufti of the Kingdom, has said the day of fasting for Ashoura, Muharram 10, falls on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
Sheikh Aal Al-Sheikh called this a way out of arguments that the crescent was not sighted to mark the beginning of Muharram.
He said Saturday therefore was the last day of Dhul Hijjah and Sunday the first of Muharram. Hence, the 9th and 10th of Muharram – days on which Muslims are recommended to fast – fall on Monday (Dec. 5) and Tuesday (Dec. 6) respectively.
1 Muharram 1433 was on Sunday 27 November 2011, and 10 Muharram (‘Aashooraa) 1433 will fall on Tuesday 6 December 2011.
09 Muharram 1433 = Monday 5 December 2011
10 Muharram (day of ‘Aashooraa) 1433 = Tuesday 6 December 2011
11 Muharram 1433 = Wednesday 7 December 2011
