Removing the head covering

Question: I have a skin disease on my head. The doctor told me to remove the head covering that I wear on my head and that is truly harming me at the present time. Do I have the right to do that? What shall I do?

Response: Yes, you have the right to remove your head covering from your head if you are not in the presence of non-mahram men, such as when you are with your husband, mahram men or women only with no men present. However, when you go to the marketplace or in the presence of non-mahram men, it is obligatory upon you to cover your head and your face as well the rest of your body.
